The two massive temples in southern Egypt. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the ”Nubian Monuments”, these iconic temples were carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC, during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II. With the four gargantuan statues of Ramses guarding the Great Temple, carved directly out of the mountain on the west bank of the Nile, this is one of Egypt’s most memorable sights.

  6. Day 6 - 19 Oct, 2022 Edfu - Karnak Temple - Luxor [B/L/D]

Morning after breakfast, visit the Temple of Horus (also known as the Temple of Edfu), it is considered the best-preserved cult temple in Egypt. This is partly because it was built later than most: in the Ptolemaic era from 237 to 57 BC. Despite its later date, it reflects traditional pharaonic architecture and so provides an excellent idea of how all the temples once looked.  Return back to cruise.  Enjoy lunch whilst sailing on to Luxor via Esna lock to which you will get the opportunity to see local life and take some memorable pictures.

Evening enjoy the fascinating insight into Ancient Egypt along with the East Bank of the Nile. Explore the magnificent Karnak Temple, which is perhaps the most impressive of all the ancient Pharaohs’ monumental works. One of the world’s most celebrated temple complexes, Karnak is a house of the gods built over a period of some 200 years.

Don’t miss out on Egyptian interpretations of typical Mediterranean staples like baba ghanoush, falafel, and stuffed grape leaves. Tea is the national drink and is offered at breakfast, after lunch, and in most social situations.
  • Meal times vary greatly in Egypt and locals often skip lunch. While on tour, breakfast will be served around 8am and lunch is often served around 3pm. Therefore, we recommended bringing energy bars, crackers, or other packable snacks with you during the day.

  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • Egypt is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
  • When it’s noon in New York City, it’s 6pm in Egypt
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.

  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
  • In Egypt, tipping is an important part of the local culture and you will be expected to tip for services including, but not limited to, taking photos in some areas or seeing additional exhibits. Travelers should carry small bills (in USD) for this purpose.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
    • You will use the Egyptian pound in Egypt
    • Better rates of exchange are usually available abroad, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
    • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
    • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
    • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
