  3. Day 3 - 03 Aug, 2023 Nairobi Sightseeing [B/-/-]

    Today its all about Nairobi. start with a panoramic tour covering the modern city center, Parliament Buildings and the Snake Park, it continues to the Railway Museum where old steam locomotives are exhibited, including the one from which Superintendent John Lyall was taken from by a man-eating lion in Tsavo in 1901. Continue to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Learn about how the baby elephants are rescued and taken care off. Continue to the giraffe center, where you can take the opportunity to feed the giraffes. Enjoy a relaxing stroll through the nature park.   Next head to the Karen Blixen Museum. Spend 2 hours there, discovering the life and history of the famous Out of Africa author. We will visit a local school.  Afternoon return back to the hotel.

    Swapping concrete jungles for iconic views of mighty Mount Kilimanjaro and the home of the legendary Maasai, today you’ll travel to Amboseli National Park. Settle in to your deluxe tented accommodation nestled among Amboseli’s vast plains, before heading out on a safari adventure later this afternoon. Surrounded by scenes that feel like a real-life film set, the fantasy of coming to Africa will really set in and it will be all eyes peeled during your first encounters with Kenya’s epic wildlife.

  5. Day 5 - 05 Aug, 2023 Amboseli National Park [B/L/D]

    In Africa, the early bird gets the best wildlife sightings. Rise before the sun to head out on a morning safari through Amboseli National Park with your Driver Guide in search of leopards, cheetahs and lions. As the sun rises, you’ll get to sit back and enjoy the ride whilst watching large herds of African elephants roaming through the park’s “salty dust” and high grasses. Enjoy a quick picnic lunch with the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro in the background, in order to make the most of the afternoon safari. Ride back to your lodge as the sun goes down for a delicious dinner and an evening swapping story of all the animals you spotted.

    Early riser? We’ve got just the Optional Experience for you, with the chance to join a naturalist led bird walk to learn more about the featured friends of this region. Prefer a lazy morning? That’s OK too. Why not start the day your way, with a lazy breakfast and a cup of steaming coffee whilst admiring the view. Once back together, we’ll wave goodbye to Lake Elementaita and cast our eyes to the vast expanse of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

    oday shall be a game viewing extravaganza. The reserve is well known for its black-manned lion as well as its abundant resident wildlife and its one of the few places where it’s possible to see the big five during a morning’s game drive. The scenic appeal of the tree studded savanna plains, the moderate climate and diversity of wild game species makes it a one stop shop for game viewing activities.

    We shall traverse the Masai Mara reserve on a game viewing encountering the big five and more of the lesser game.

    Today marks the end of your Magical Kenya  Vacation. You take home a big smile and a lifetime of memories – that much is certain!

    The words of ‘Out of Africa’ author Karen Blixen will feel especially poignant as you say a final farewell to the Maasai Mara this morning. “If there were one more thing I could do, it would be to go on safari again”. Well, never say never, we say! Returning to Nairobi in a haze of wildlife and happy memories, you’ll have a quiet afternoon at your hotel ahead of your evening flight.

A well paced and unhurried itinerary is our goal, after all, you are on vacation! Touring days begin and end at reasonable hours and include frequent stops. You will walk for about 2.5 hours daily across mostly flat terrain, including paved roads and cobblestone streets, with few hills or stairs. You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times.

We use hotels that are closely monitoring COVID-19 updates and adhering to the guidelines that are set by the National Health Organization and WHO. Along with the Government directions  are preparing to safely reopen and accept guests with thorough precautionary standards set in place, to ensure a safe, healthy and welcoming environment!

Cleanliness and hygiene standards at hotels are of high importance and they have implemented additional measures that meet the latest guidance on hygiene and cleaning, to ensure the safety of our guests and team daily. The hotels are using cleaning & environmentally friendly products and protocols that are effective against viruses.  They are conducting enhanced training and corona virus awareness, updating our team in response to the new standards COVID -19 has set for our well-being, onward

A post signage on entrance door that no one with a fever or symptoms of COVID-19 will be permitted in the hotel Public spaces. They will perform cleaning and disinfection in all public spaces with increased frequency; Hand sanitizers have been placed at all areas  and team facilities including lobby, dining outlets and reception desk, bathrooms and offices. The hotels will provide  surgical masks and gloves to guests and staff according to the new guidelines . Designated signage at all public areas, notifying guests of keeping social distance, wearing masks, use hand sanitizers.

Elevators, must be used by one passenger at a time, or guests sharing the same room. Still, we encourage you to use the stairs.

Rooms. Key prevention protocols are followed to clean the rooms with particular attention paid to high touch items. A rigorous cleaning after guest depart and before the next arrival.  More detailed information is provided in each room

Back of House.  Screening of all teams, in each shift before entering  the Hotel, for symptoms to  Immediately exclude anyone. In the spaces where  Hotels team is working we are increasing the frequency of cleaning and focusing on high-touch areas like  entrances, locker rooms, laundry rooms and  offices

The hotels will ensure to follow Food Safety Policies as well with daily cleaning and disinfection of the kitchen and other food preparation areas, surfaces, proper cooking and storage of food and hygiene practices.

Our suppliers use transport companies, those have implemented to enhance hygiene protocols, to comply with physical distancing requirements by relevant government authorities and to give you peace of mind when you are travelling during these new times.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the transport companies  have taken additional measures to elevate our hygiene and sanitary practices in accordance with guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as required, applicable government regulations.

The Driver training provides them with the latest hygiene protocols. They will clean and disinfect all surfaces including handrails, door handles, tables, seats, air-conditioning filters and overhead lockers on a daily basis.

All our guests are asked to follow hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organisation including the thorough and regular washing of hands and sanitizing when required.

Hand sanitizer will be available on board for your use throughout the day.

Please bring your own washable face mask and gloves with you, and additional hand sanitizer to make you feel comfortable, as these will be required to be worn in public in some countries.

Should an unexpected situation arise, additional face masks, rubber gloves, antiviral sprays and wipes will be available for guest distribution on all trips.

The health and safety of our passengers and employees is our top priority. As questions and concerns arise as a result of COVID-19, our group of companies has taken a number of precautionary measures to provide the highest level of protection for our customers and team.

Our COVID-19 measures include:

  • The vehicles interiors are completely cleaned and sanitized daily.
  • Drivers now perform a thorough cleaning of the vehicle’s interior surfaces with disinfectant wipes between each trip.
  • Drivers have been issued protective disposable rubber gloves and masks.
  • With the exception of dispatcher, office staff are now working remotely, from home.
  • All employees have been instructed to self monitor, self isolate and seek immediate medical attention if they show any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Under no circumstance will we allow sick employees to report for work.

We are closely monitoring the situation with guidance from the U.S. Department of State and other relevant U.S. and international authorities. In the event that the international and domestic travel bans and restrictions, governmental orders, and public health advisories will not be sufficiently lifted in time for your tour to depart as scheduled, or that these or other external events make it impractical for suppliers to provide their services at all or in a manner that does not meet our safety and quality standards, **we will notify you around 45 days prior to departure**. If this happens, we will work with you to re-evaluate your plans and options for travel.

Covid-19 Reschedule: Your tour qualifies from a reschedule to a future date based on government advisories. A mutually agreed date with the tour leader will be announced and all the deposits will be retained for future travel for the same trip.

  • In order to enter Kenya, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
  • We recommend having at least two blank passport pages for entry stamps.
  • U.S. and Canadian passport holders must obtain a visa in advance in order to enter Kenya. You may purchase an e-visa online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or submit a request for a paper visa by visiting your local embassy. (Please note: The consulates in the U.S. and Canada have no jurisdiction over the e-visa process). You can also purchase your visa by using a visa provider, such as our partner VisaCentral. You will need to have your visa receipt with you upon arrival in Kenya.
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • Airlines have varying weight restrictions on baggage. Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage; be advised that you are responsible for any such costs.
  • Contact your airline for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flight, but please note that our travelers are restricted to one checked bag per person due to storage limitations on safari vehicles.
  • You’ll need one overnight bag, such as a backpack or small collapsible duffle bag.
  • One small carry-on bag is also permitted (which can double as your overnight bag).
  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag. Safari luggage restrictions are strict and strongly enforced. It’s essential that your luggage meet the following requirements:* A soft, flexible duffel bag (absolutely no hard suitcases or bags with hard sides are permitted)
  • Your bags can be no larger than 34” W by 17” H by 15” L
  • The total weight cannot exceed 44 pounds (including your camera equipment and carry-on bag
  • Loose-fitting, layered clothing that can accommodate varying temperatures will be most comfortable. Quick-dry material is best for hot days outside and a warmer layer may be needed for chilly evenings and early mornings.
  • Wear muted colors for game drives, as bright clothing may scare animals away and blue or black clothing attracts tsetse flies.
  • Comfortable closed-toes shoes, such as sneakers or lightweight hiking boots, are best for walking during the day.
  • Pack a swimsuit as many of the hotels have pools that you are free to use at your leisure.
  • Sun protection is very important. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a broad-brimmed hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
  • Occasional rain showers are common during certain seasons, so lightweight rainwear may be necessary depending on the timing of your trip.
  • Mosquito repellent, binoculars, and a flashlight are highly recommended.
  • A small bottle of hand sanitizer may be helpful when other facilities are not readily available while on the road.
  • The Kenyan government has a strict ban on plastic bags. It is illegal to use, sell, or carry plastic bags anywhere in the country under the new law, and violators will face charges including high fines or imprisonment. Please bring reusable cloth bags if you plan to go shopping on tour, and do not pack any plastic bags, including small resealable bags.
  • At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov.
  • Local governments may require proof of a yellow fever vaccination (often referred to as a yellow card ) or a statement of medical exemption from the vaccine. This is only required of travelers arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever virus transmission (Please note: This does not include the U.S. or Canada). Visit cdc.gov/yellowfever for more information.
  • If you’re traveling on the tour extension to Tanzania you’re required to provide proof of a yellow fever vaccination (often referred to as a yellow card ) or a statement of medical exemption from the vaccine.
  • Drink bottled water only. Refrain from ingesting tap water, including when brushing your teeth.
  • Avoid eating fresh fruits and vegetables unless they’re cooked or washed in clean water and peeled.
  • Bring a small first aid kit, including antacids, anti-diarrhea medication, motion sickness medication, and any prescription medications in your carry on luggage.
  • If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour and any possible delays encountered.
  • If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to your departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call our Customer Experience Team.
  • Cuisine in your game lodges reflects the region’s British colonial influence—you may find that many locals pause for afternoon tea. Most restaurants offer curries and other South Asian cuisine brought over by the many Indian immigrants. Maize, sweet potatoes, and pineapple were brought over by the Portuguese, and beef has been a staple since the 1600s.
  • Kenya operates on the British standard 240 volts and uses a Type G plug with three large, flat pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • Not all of the hotels on this tour will have air conditioning.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Power outages are common. In some of the camps, power is turned off in the late afternoon as well as in the early morning.
  • Wi-Fi is available in some hotels, though charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches or safari vehicles.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • Kenya is three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and eight hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Standard Time (ET).
  • When it’s noon in New York, it’s 8pm in Nairobi.
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your driver/guide a gratuity in USD. We recommend tipping the equivalent of $8USD to $10USD per person per day.
  • If applicable, we also recommend $2USD per local guide.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
  • You can also expect to be solicited for tips from the hospitality and restaurant staff that you encounter. Leaving as little as the equivalent of $1USD is greatly appreciated, although tipping is entirely at your discretion
  • The currency you’ll be using on your tour is the Kenyan shilling
  • You may be able to purchase Kenyan shillings in advance from your local bank or a foreign currency exchange retailer, such as Travelex. There is no limit on importing currency into Kenya, but please note travelers are restricted from carrying more than $100,000 in Kenyan shillings out of the country
  • We recommend that you carry as little local cash as possible as well as small amounts of U.S. dollars (only crisp bills printed in 2004 or later).
  • ATMs are most readily available in Nairobi; while there, we recommend taking out cash in small bills to have on safari.
  • Major North American credit cards are accepted but can be difficult to use in remote locations (Visa is the most widely accepted).
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
  • We suggest that you inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
